Xiang Xu is an international choreographer, dancer and instructor based in New York City. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the Beijing Dance Academy and his M.F.A. from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Xiang Xu Dance Theater was founded early 2015 in New York City. As an emerging dance theater, it focuses on exploring new concepts of dance based on merging Asian philosophies into western contemporary dance. As a dancer and choreographer, Xiang Xu strives to discover new Chinese bodily aesthetics as a new definition in contemporary dance, which is based on Chinese Classical Dance. Xiang focuses on abundant Chinese bodily etiquettes, traditional emotions, and expressions, such as three bodily curves, the center of gravity moving close to the ground and other techniques. In 2018, Xiang Xu Dance Theater was involved in various dance projects in major locations like the Beijing Dance Festival, New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance New York. As future blueprints, the Xiang Xu Dance Theater will focus on collaborating with talented artists from different art fields and pursue performances internationally.
