In this drawing we see 1 child, 2 parents, and 5 extended family members reading National Geographic Magazine, representing how families have enjoyed this multi-generational educational magazine for 125 years.
Etiquetas: Mandalas, Mathematical Digital Drawings, NG125, NG125kids, t-shirtsHere we celebrate National Geographic Society's 125 year Journey. Nat Geo's educational endeavor has been promoting Peace and Empathy, connecting Humanity for the good of all the Earth. Because of their continuing aspirations our world is a better place.
This design incorporates the four elements, the four directions. Other symbols are described below.
This design celebrates National Geographic Society's 125 years of research & exploration. I included symbols of oceans, lands, skies, and the universe to represent the depth and breadth of their ongoing work. I used mathematical software to produce the drawing: combining science and art. In a similar way National Geographic has been educating us about sciences through an artistic medium; a magazine of pictures and words.
This drawing looks like a Mandala. The mathematical term for for these circular symmetrical patterns is "Rosette". With mathematical software, I draw a "Seed" image, then I multiply it to compose the design.
Below, you can view the elements of the "Seed" drawing, the finished "Seed", and I also show how the "Seed" can be multiplied, rotated & reflected to create a design. The last two images show the seed multiplied 3,6,9,&12 times. In C3,C6,C9 & C12, the "Seed" is rotating clockwise. In D3,D6,D9,& D12, the "Seed" is rotating clockwise and then is reflected anti-clockwise.

I am truly honored to be part of this Tenth Anniversary Embracing Our Differences show in Sarasota, Florida.
Here is the story & more information.
Our Love Family
We children of Earth express the rainbow of life;
the flame in our hearts is the same...
One clear night, there was a heart crying softly in the darkness. It couldn't sleep because it felt devastated and lonely. Yet, somehow, the heart found comfort when gazing up at the endless night sky.
The stars whispered their song to the heart, "we are alone, we are all one, we are alone, we are all one ..." Then more stars chimed in "we are alone, we are all one..." Suddenly, the heart understood. We are unique and part of the whole always at the same time.
In that moment, the heart burst open, igniting its inner-flame. Sharing the light sparked other heart-flames, spreading a wave of brilliance throughout the world.
By dawn, the light was so powerful it woke them up from the collective dream. Their hearts transformed. That's when they realized they'd been living with their brothers and sisters all along!
Now the family celebrates how the flame in their hearts unites them. They dance to embody this moment of awakening so they can call on this deep inner knowing when facing the dark days ahead.
Artist Statement - Loretta Angelica
My artwork, Our Love Family, evokes the story above. I designed it to embody the Embracing Our Differences theme.
From afar, it piques the interest in the idea that humankind is all one family. As you draw closer, you see it is a storybook. And closer still, you see the story of people expressing their unique individuality and then, celebrating their understanding that the flame in their hearts unites them.
The border of hands around the group signifies: A) our gratitude and the balance of giving/ receiving and also, B) reaching for our aspirations. The footprints on the group's background represent: A) our ancestors who walked before us, B) our life's journey, and C) the legacy we offer future generations.
In the video, after the heart bursts open and shares the light, you can see details/close-ups of the family members. With pastel, water-colour, or acrylic I painted each one, and then scanned them into the computer to make the group. In contrast, I painted one heart-flame, and then placed the same image into all the different figures.
